Straight To My Wandering Heart!

I grew up old school with lots of those hold beautiful hymns that are a full sermon in and of themselves.  When you listen to the words and what they are saying…it’s amazing.  They are what keep me grounded when life comes at me full force.  Just the other day I was sitting in a service where one of my favorites was on the schedule and as I sang I was overcome with the truth of God’s grace.

When it came to the phrase where it says….

“O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.”

I found myself in tears as I really listened to what the author was saying.

Daily I’m in need of Your grace.  God, in your goodness and love for me take my wandering heart and bind it to You.  My second nature is to wander and to look to other things and get distracted from the things that I know You have for me.  I feel it.  Face down before You,  I offer myself…again.  Take me and use me for what YOU have planned.

I’m quite sure the people in my row thought I was having a breakdown. Maybe they hadn’t heard what I heard…then again maybe I just needed it more.  I found myself humbly bowing before my Lord.  Why is it that my heart wanders so?  I don’t want a wandering heart, but it is so prone to go there.  In my study this morning I found these words “Walk peacefully with Me through this day.  You are wondering how you will cope with all that is expected of you.  When you don’t know what to do, wait while I open the way before you.  Trust that I know what I’m doing and be ready to follow My lead.”

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, ²¹ equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21

I love seeing these old hymns in new ways.
